About Agora
Agora is a forum where research mathematicians discuss recent progress: new preprints, open problems, proof strategies, and precise questions at the level of current research.
Who can take part
Everything on Agora is public to read. To post, answer, or vote you need an account, and accounts require an email address at a university or research institute on our allowlist. If your institution is missing, or you work outside academia, an administrator can invite you.
Members use their real names. Your email address is never shown.
What to post
- Questions with a definite mathematical answer. State what you know and what you've tried; include references.
- Discussions of recent results, strategies, or open problems.
- Papers: share a new preprint (yours or someone else's) with a summary, and discuss it. Paste an arXiv identifier to import its title and abstract and attach the PDF.
Writing mathematics
Posts are written in Markdown with LaTeX mathematics, rendered with KaTeX. You can use theorem and proof environments, cite papers with \cite{…}, and attach PDFs. See the formatting guide.
Votes and reputation
Vote up posts that are correct, clear, and useful; vote down those that are wrong or unclear. You earn 10 reputation for each upvote on your posts, lose 2 for each downvote, and earn 15 when your answer is accepted.
Imported collections
Some threads are imported from external collections of results, such as the openai/math manuscript collection. These are marked with an import badge. Imported results have not been refereed on Agora — the discussion threads are where members examine them.
Notifications
You're notified about new answers to threads you posted, answered, or follow, about comments on your posts, and when someone mentions you with @username. Email notifications can be turned off in your settings.
Privacy
Agora stores your email address (never shown to others), your name and affiliation (shown with your posts), and what you post. Uploaded files are public. Votes are anonymous. We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in, and no tracking or advertising cookies. To have your account removed, contact an administrator.
Moderation
Flag posts that are spam, abusive, or plagiarized. Moderators can edit and delete posts and suspend accounts.
